Description:

The largest corvid; large, powerful bill with nasal bristles covering half and long throat feathers. From Large-billed, by longer neck, longer and more angled wings with more pronounced fingered primaries, and more markedly wedge-shaped tail. On the ground, stouter bill with straighter culmen, prominent throat hackles and flatter crown.


Distribution:

Widespread resident all over Gilgit-Baltistan, mainly at higher elevations. Extreme habitat generalist, occurring from forests, shrublands and deserts to high alpine steppe and mountains. Generally found in more open habitat, up to 4500m.


Behavior:

Locates food by sight, sound, perhaps also by olfaction at very close distances. Actively scans for carrion, investigates locations, watches foraging birds and mammals for cues; actively hunts from perch, in flight and on foot. Opportunistic scavenger, closely associated with large carnivores, notably wolves, and wasteful omnivores, notably humans. Eats huge variety of animals and plants.
